Boost PS4 Internet Speed INSTANTLY

Let’s face it. The PS4’s wireless adapters are somewhat lacking. My internet speed is about 40 down and 10 up. However, when I tested it on my PS4 it’s only about 10 down and 5 up. This is terrible for any gamer. I play a lot of Battle Royales and online games so I need a decent internet speed.

I had a look around on various forums and many users are experiencing the same speed issues. One user reported that their PS3 gets better connection speed than their PS4. What’s worse is that they had their modem a few feet from the PS4.

I tried looking into why this is happening and I even rang PlayStation Support. They couldn’t help me. All they advised me to do was make sure the PS4 was updated. So I took matters into my own hands and searched for ways to improve the PS4’s internet connection.

Simply put, to boost your PS4 internet speed. You need to change your PS4’s DNS Settings. This can be done in your PS4’s WiFi settings. You can use Google’s DNS or you can use Cloudflare’s DNS. Depending on where you are in the world. Either method will make your speed faster. I will show you how to configure both of these settings below. Test each method to see which one works best for you. 

Method 1. Change to Cloudflare’s DNS

Boot up your PS4 and go to the Network Settings. Next, go to Internet Settings and select the option Set up internet connection. When in this menu. Choose which type of connection you use. WiFi or LAN (for this example I will use WiFi). Next select Custom. Choose your WiFi connection. Do not change any of the following settings except the DNS settings. When in DNS Settings configure your settings to the values shown below. Save and test your internet again.

• Primary DNS: 1.1.1.1
• Secondary DNS: 1.0.0.1

Method 2. Change to Google’s DNS

This method involves the same process as method 1. Here is the process in steps:

1. Network Settings
2. Internet Settings
3. Set up internet connection
4. Choose connection type (WiFi or LAN)
5. Custom
6. Do not change any settings ONLY DNS SETTINGS
7. Change DNS settings to the following:

• Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
• Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Extra tips to boost your PS4 Internet Speed

There are some other ways to ensure you have a strong PS4 internet speed. The first is to connect to a LAN. This means hooking your PS4 up to an Ethernet cable. This literally can 6X your internet speed.

Using an Ethernet cable guarantees that your PS4 will be sent a minimum amount of consistent data. In other words, the connection won’t fluctuate like on WiFi. You can buy an Ethernet cable on Amazon for quite cheap. Here is one for only 10 bucks.

Secondly, try to keep your PS4 as close to the router as possible. Any closer device will have a stronger signal. It’s as simple as that. However, this is quite difficult for those with their router downstairs and their PS4 upstairs. An alternative to this is to use WiFi extenders. You can get WiFi extenders for quite cheap too.
