Vehicle History For Petrol Heads
The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is a legendary vehicle that has been around since 1965. It was originally introduced as a two-door muscle car and was created to compete against other popular sports cars of the time such as the Ford Thunderbolt, Chevrolet Chevelle SS, and Pontiac GTO.
In 1971, the second generation of Charger SRT Hellcat was unveiled and it was upgraded with more power and even more aggressive styling.
This version featured an enlarged engine displacing 7.2liters and generating 375 horsepower giving it top speeds of over 145 mph (233 kph). It also featured unique features such as the hood scoop, side air scoops in the wheel arches, and additional trim pieces.
By 1975, the third generation of this iconic vehicle had arrived which featured a larger grille with blacked-out trim pieces to give it an even more aggressive look.
It also came equipped with a five-speed manual transmission as well as an array of interior improvements including improved bucket seats, better ergonomics, and air conditioning.
In 1992, the fourth generation was released and this version featured a 5.2 liter V8 engine producing 230 horsepower.
This version also included an electronic traction control system which helped improve handling in slippery conditions. Additionally, this model featured improved brakes for increased stopping power when needed.
The fifth generation of this iconic vehicle arrived in 2006 with improved design elements such as restyled headlights and grille, 18-inch wheels on all models, Xenon HID headlamps standard on some models, as well as dual exhaust pipes integrated into the rear bumper for added performance appeal.
In addition to these features, it also received numerous interior upgrades such as leather seating surfaces in higher trim levels along with satellite navigation systems available on select models.
In 2015 Dodge unleashed its sixth (and current) generation of the Charger SRT Hellcat onto the market with some serious underhood modifications, a supercharged 6.2liter V8 Hemi engine that produces 707 horsepower making it one of the fastest sedans ever produced by any manufacturer in history!
This incredible engine propels this four-door family sedan from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just 3 seconds flat! What’s more, is that this beastly beast can achieve top speeds of over 200 mph (322 km/h) thanks to its eight-speed automatic transmission allowing drivers to experience extreme thrills at any given moment!
