Vehicle History
Bugatti has a long and storied racing history, dating all the way back to the early days of the company. The Bugatti VGT was introduced in 2001 as a race car designed to compete in the FIA GT Championship.
The VGT was based on the production Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron and featured a modified version of the Veyron’s 8.0 liter W16 engine. The engine was tuned to produce over 1000 horsepower and could propel the VGT to speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.
The VGT also featured a number of aerodynamic enhancements, including a large rear wing, which helped it achieve high levels of downforce.
The VGT made its racing debut at the 2001 Spa 24 Hours, where it finished in second place. The car would go on to compete in a number of high-profile races over the next few years, including the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Nurburgring 24 Hours.
In 2004, the VGT scored a major victory at the Spa 24 Hours, becoming the first car to ever win the race outright with a non-piston engine.
The VGT was eventually replaced by the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport in 2010. The Super Sport was significantly more powerful than the VGT and featured an updated aerodynamic package. It would go on to win the 2010 Spa 24 Hours, cementing Bugatti’s reputation as a top-tier racing team.
Today, the VGT is remembered as one of the most successful race cars ever built. It remains an icon of the Bugatti brand and is revered by fans of the company all over the world.
