What does vaulted mean?

If you have landed on this page because you have heard the term but don’t know what it means. We’re here for you. If a weapon or item is put in the vault or vaulted it means it has been removed from the game. Epic Games does this from time to time to balance the gameplay. They are constantly looking at the data and seeing what is being over or underused. They make changes accordingly.

Can a vaulted weapon or item come back to the game?

Yes, a weapon/item that has been vaulted can make a return to the game. However, we will never know which guns or items will come back. That is up to Epic Games to decide. Moreover, you will find that most of the vaulted weapons or items are still available in Playground and other modes.

Fortnite Battle Royale Vault – All Removed Items

Below you will find all the removed items in Fortnite Battle Royale. This list is updated as new items are vaulted by Epic Games. The items are divided into categories based on their use. Categories include guns, explosives, traps, etc.

Recently Vaulted/ Unvaulted Items

Below is a list of all the recently vaulted weapons in Chapter 2: Season 1.

Removed Guns

Auto Sniper Rifle – In the vault since v11.0.0

Flint Knock Pistol – In the vault since v11.0.0

Hand Cannon – In the vault since v11.0.0

Heavy Assault Rifle – In the vault since v11.0.0

Heavy Sniper Rifle – In the vault since v11.0.0

Infantry Rifle – In the vault since v11.0.0

Minigun – In the vault since v11.0.0

Revolver – In the vault since v11.0.0

Suppressed Assault Rifle – In the vault since v11.0.0

Suppressed SMG – In the vault since v11.0.0

Tactical SMG – In the vault since v11.0.0

Burst SMG – In the vault since v10.30 update

The Burst SMG was vaulted in patch 10.30. It was never used that much anyway so players didn’t miss it. It was replaced by the Tactical Sub Machine Gun.

Combat Shotgun – In the vault since v10.20.2 update

The Combat Shotgun was vaulted on September 4th, 2019. It was most likely vaulted because of its OP stats. It has a very tight bullet spread combined with a great range for a shotgun. This made the weapon very valuable in Fortnite.

Drum Shotgun – In the vault since v10.20.2 Hotfix

The Drum Shotgun had quite a high fire rate and DPS. However, it wasn’t used very often so Epic scrapped it. It was only really powerful in very close range engagements

Storm Scout Sniper Rifle – In the vault since v10.20 update

The Storm Scout was scrapped and was replaced by the Automatic Sniper Rifle. The weapon was pretty cool as it had a weather map imbedded in the scope. The map would give you a heads up on where the next Storm Circle was.

Drum Gun – In the vault since v10.20 update

Originally vaulted in season 5 for being too OP. The Drum Gun made a comeback in Season 8. It enjoyed a short spell until being removed in v10.20. It was a beast. Who doesn’t love a Tommy Gun?

Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle – In the vault since v10.00

The Semi-Auto Sniper has seen two sessions in the vault. Initially, it was removed way back in v6.21 and returned briefly in season 9. It didn’t have any stats to brag about so we don’t think fans missed it too much.

Tactical Assault Rifle (Epic and Legendary) – In the vault since v10.00

This AR was vaulted to reduce the number of Assault Rifles in the game. It was a steady weapon with decent stats so we may see it make a return in the future.

Suppressed Sniper Rifle – In the vault since v9.40

The Suppressed Sniper Rifle had less power but more stealth. It was replaced by the Bolt Action Sniper Rifle.

Tactical Assault Rifle (Rare) – In the vault since v9.30

Vaulted in Season 9, the Epic and legendary variants followed suit at the beginning of season 10.

Boom Bow – In the vault since v9.30

This Bow was a pretty fun weapon to use if you were lucky enough to find it. It packed some nice power too. If you want to get your hands on it again, you’ll to have to play Creative.

Dual Pistols v9.30 – In the vault since v9.30

This will be the Dual Pistols second trip to the vault. The Dual Pistols saw too many people using them which devalued the gameplay, so they got the ax. They are currently only available in Creative.

Hunting Rifle – In the vault since v9.20

The Hunting Rifle saw freedom from the vault for a short spell. Players could find it in Tilted Town if they went looking. However, with the removal of Tilted Town from the map. It’s back to the vault for the Hunting Rifle.

Compact SMG – In the vault since v9.01

The vaulting of the Compact SMG saw the release of the Tactical Assault Rifle which has since been vaulted. It’s decent mag size and fast fire rate made it a viable weapon in close range.

Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle – In the vault since v9.0

According to the Epic Games, this AR was vaulted to clear up space in the game. It was quite a powerful weapon with no actual damage drop off range. Its thermal scope was great for spotting enemies hiding behind cover.

Scoped Revolver – In the vault since v9.0

Let’s face it, nobody really missed this weapon. It was removed because nobody really made use of it. The weapon was more for people with an exceptional aim.

Heavy Shotgun – In the vault since v7.30

The Heavy Shotgun was quite a viable weapon with great range and fire rate for a shotgun. However, the Pump Shotgun remains the go-to shotgun for Fortnite players.

Burst Assault Rifle Common, Uncommon, Rare – In the vault since v7.10

These were the first of the Burst Assault Rifle variants to be vaulted. The Epic and Legendary followed suit shortly after.

Six Shooter – In the vault since v7.10

The Six Shooter was vaulted to make way for Dual Pistols. Dual Pistols have since been vaulted since then. Moreover, it wasn’t used much. Therefore, was taking up space so it got the vault.

Double Barrel Shotgun – In the vault since v7.0

The Double Barrel Shotgun got thrown into the vault after Tilted Town was removed from the map. It will surely make a return at some stage.

Light Machine Gun – In the vault since v6.00

The Light Machine was removed in Season 6 because of its overpowered status. The weapon is an absolute beast that can decimate even metal.

Crossbow – In the vault since v4.0

There are many variants of the Crossbow in Fortnite. This Crossbow has been vaulted since Season 4.

Sub Machine Gun TEC9 (MP) – In the vault since v2.5

This MP or TEC 9 looked sick. However, it lacked in the damage department. As a result, nobody used it so it was vaulted.

Zapatron – Removed since v1.6.4

The Zapatron was an insane weapon with incredible stats. It could kill in 1 shot most of the time. It was quickly removed and has been invisible ever since.

Epic Games said that the weapon just doesn’t fit the game in its current state. It has been gone for so long that it’s not very likely we will ever see the weapon again.

Removed Explosives and Throwables

Airstrike – In the vault since v11.0.0

This throwable was never of much use. It was mainly used to force someone out of their fort or away from their build. It didn’t last long to say the least.

Boogie Bomb – In the vault since v11.0.0

Explosive Batarang – In the vault since v11.0.0

Grenade Launcher – In the vault since v11.0.0

Junk Rift – In the vault since v11.0.0

Shockwave Grenade – In the vault since v11.0.0

Stink Bomb – In the vault since v11.0.0

Proximity Grenade Launcher – In the vault since v10.20.2 Hotfix

This weapon was just annoying and way too accurate. On top of that, it was near impossible to find. Epic made a good move to vault it.

Storm Flip – In the vault since v10.20

The Storm Flip was removed most likely because it was very strong especially towards the end of a game. Players could use it to shield themselves from the storm. To be fair, it probably wasn’t even used that often.

Shadow Bomb – In the vault since v.10.00

Epic Games went hell for leather on mobility in Season 10. As a result, Shadow Bombs were removed to reduce the total mobility items in the game.

Impulse Grenade – In the vault since v9.30 and v6.0

v9.30 was the second time the Impulse Grenade saw the vault. It had its first peek at the vault way back in Season 6. This time it was replaced by the Shockwave Grenade.

Dynamite – In the vault since v9.30

It was removed to balance the number of explosives found in the game according to Epic Games v9.30 official patch notes.

Clinger – In the vault since v9.00

Round two for the Clinger and the vault. It’s a battle between Grenades or Clingers over at Epic Games.

Sneaky Snowman – In the vault since v8.0

Such a cool little snowman. Unfortunately, winter ended so he had to melt his way into the vault. Most likely the Sneaky Snowman will appear again when it gets cold enough.

Chiller Grenade – In the vault since v8.0

Another quirky winter-themed edition like its friend the Sneaky Snowman. It was removed at the start of Season 8 because winter came to an end.

Bottle Rockets – In the vault since v8.0

Nobody liked them and you probably didn’t either. Let’s face it, they were incredibly weak and served little purpose.

Guided Missile – In the vault since v7.30

Originally vaulted in v6.21 because it was too OP. It made a brief reappearance until being vaulted in Season 7 because nobody could ever find it so nobody used it.

Boom Box – In the vault since v7.30

These bad boys annoyed so many people. Mainly because it easily obliterated their builds in seconds making it very difficult to build when faced with a Boom Box.

Quad Launcher – In the vault since v7.20

This crazy overpowered weapon was asking to be vaulted. Its ability to rain down 4 high powered missiles guaranteed it a place in the vault.

Remote Explosives – In the vault since v6.00

Remote Explosives were a crazy explosive device that obliterated everything in their radius. These were removed because of their crazy overpowered status.

Smoke Grenade – In the vault since v3.30

Long gone and a good decision by Epic Games. Smoke Grenades were pretty much useless. All people did was use them to troll other players.

Removed Traps

Bouncer – In the vault since v11.0.0

Cozy Campfire – In the vault since v11.0.0

Launch Pad – In the vault since v11.0.0

Zapper Trap – In the vault since v11.0.0

Mounted Turret – In the vault since v10.00

A glitchy and overpowered nightmare. The Mounted Turret was dying to be vaulted. Good call by Epic Games.

Poison Dart Trap – In the vault since v9.00

A dart that fires poisonous darts on activation. It was vaulted in Season 9 because nobody was really using it that often.

Chiller – In the vault since v7.00

Another Trap that never saw much use. Coincidentally, it was vaulted for that very reason.

Ceiling Trap, Spike Trap, & Wall Dynamo – vaulted in the Small Shield Potion Update

Traps in Fortnite used to be categorized based on where they could be placed in the game. Ceiling traps could be attached to the ceiling, Spike traps that were placed on the ground and Wall Traps that players could attach to the wall.

These categories are now obsolete and all subsequent traps contain the ability to be placed anywhere.

Removed Melee Items

Infinity Blade – In the vault since v7.0

This was the first powerful melee weapon in Fortnite Battle Royale. It is a pretty epic sword. It did a lot of favors for those lucky enough to find it. Such as boosting health and movement speed. It may very well make a comeback at a later stage

Removed Vehicles

The Baller – In the vault since v10.00

Season 10 brought the slowing down of everything mobile. So The Baller had to get the scrap. It is available to use in Playground and Creative modes.

Quadcrasher – In the vault since v.10.00

The Quadcrasher was a goofy vehicle and fun while it lasted. Season 10 brought the removal of lots of mobility items which included the Quadcrasher. It may come back at a later stage.

Pirate Cannon – In the vault since v9.30

The Pirate Cannon was removed due to Season 9 ending and much of the pirate locations being removed. The cannon also had a lot of glitches.

X-4 Stormwing – In the vault since v8.00

This WWII looking plane brought with it a lot of contention to the community. Much like the B.R.U.T.E, it was incredibly overpowered initially and required literally no skill. It was vaulted in Season 8 to much of the community delight.

All-Terrain Kart ATK – In the vault since v8.00

Epic Games most likely locked this one up because of the Pirate Theme that featured in Season 8. How odd would that look next to a pirate cannon?

Shopping Cart – In the vault since v8.00

Vaulted most likely because people never really using it. The Shopping Cart was another goofy addition that didn’t last long.

Removed Misc Items

Batman Grapple Gun – In the vault since v11.0.0

Chun Jug – In the vault since v11.0.0

Chug Splash – In the vault since v11.0.0

Slurp Juice – In the vault since v11.0.0

Gliders – In the vault since v10.00

After a lot of testing and feedback from the Fortnite player base. Epic Games eventually decided to vault the Glider in Season 10. As mentioned above, Season 10’s focus was on reducing mobility. As a result, Gliders had to go.

Rift-to-Go – In the vault since v9.30

Taken out just to mix things up a bit. Moreover, there are also a lot of mobility items in the game as is. Epic decided to give Rift-to-Go the scrap for now.

Balloons – In the vault since v9.0

Balloons were fun and quirky addition to the game. They could get you nice and high if needed. However, it kind of sucked the way you took damage from falling when your balloon broke.

Buried Treasure – In the vault since v9.00

With the end of the pirate theme of Season 8. The Buried Treasure map was scrapped along with every other pirate-themed item

Port-a-Fortress – In the vault since v7.20

This Legendary item builds instantly for you. It sounds pretty amazing, right? However, it only stayed around for about 2 seasons before it was locked away in the vault.

Grappler – In the vault since v7.20

The Grappler was an amazing item for those trying to gather high ground and fast. In fact, it was way too fast. Therefore, considered too easy. Epic decided it had to go in patch v7.20.

Port-a-Fort – In the vault since v7.00

The original version or downgrade to the Port-a-Fortress. This item was another goofy addition that does the building for you. It helped a lot of noob players who were still getting used to the building element in the game.

Shadow Stones – In the vault since v7.00

With the ability to make you invisible for 45 seconds. Shadow Stones were considered to be quite useful to some. They were good for getting up high and moving undetected. If the enemy is half-blind that is.
